Mercenary Hoodie /// Apparel Design
Back back during college I was going through this phase of creating apparel design concepts based on licensed characters. DC characters were my favorite to do - I must’ve created dozens of ‘em. But after learning about a site called Betabrand (essentially a crowdfunder for clothing) I gave it a shot with the design I did for a character named Deathstroke.
The crowdfunding went well. It met it’s goal, went into production, and completely sold out within a year! I got a nice little check out of it, and that was that. I was pretty happy with how it came out. Obviously some things had to be tweaked for practically purposes, but came to be a cool little piece of nerd merch. I never actually obtained one, but hey.
Oh, and one interesting note. Even years after the fact, I have yet to find a single image of this thing taken by someone other than Betabrand themselves. Now look, there were around 1000 of them made and they sold out. But other than the official promo images, you can’t find evidence of it existing outside of their website. I know how zealous geeks can be when they cop something they spent lots of money on, so it’s a little suspicious that not a single one of the thousand people that bought one ever posted a photo of it.
Bit weird.
