objective.
These guys at Riot Games found some of my concept art online back during my college years and contracted me to do some cut-and-sew apparel designs for them. I knew what League of Legends was, but had never played or knew anything about it. We discussed doing a few different characters from their catalogue, many of which I ended up designing some things for. They wanted a hoodie design that was in-line with my apparel work at the time; not overdone with the elements of a character, but enough visuals to sell who it’s meant to be.
solution.
Pulling references and checking out the lore of the character helped with getting a sense for the style. Garen is a regal, knightly sort of character, and his costume has a lot of imagery that stands out. He has these two pauldrons that have crests adorning them, which I thought would be perfect to highlight on the chest.
Ultimately this Garen character was the only one that was actually produced. They were very cool to work with, and it was fun getting to collaborate on a big-name property like League of Legends. I’ve still never played the game, but whatevs.
